Pax Americana revisited
ABCNEWS.com : Nightline: The President's Men
ABC's Nightline tonight is focusing on the Project for the New American Century, as discussed here in September.
The introductory report cited Bob Woodward's Bush at War, and Koppel talked to Project for the New American Century head William Kristol. At this point, there's no further info on their web site, but I think they'll post it once the show goes off the air.
The long and short of it is that a significant contingent of the Bush administration wanted to pre-emptively attack Iraq before the Supreme Court had awarded Bush the election. Sept. 11 gave them political cover for the plan.
By the way, Nightline just outlined the invasion plan. Well, the invasion plan for a particular US Marine unit. It seems a little irresponsible to share what city in Iraq this unit will be targeting, how many days of air attack will precede the invasion, and that their activity is meant to pin down Iraqi units near X so that other elements can strike target Y.
