Getting your happy mac back
www.ryandesign.com: Customizing the Jaguar boot screen
A lot of people have complained about Apple replacing the happy Mac icon (not me -- the gray on gray Apple logo reminds me this is Oz -- not the OS 9 Kansas the happy Mac represented).
There are some instructions above for switching out OS X boot screens. It still requires working with HexEdit and Photoshop, so if you're not pretty geeky, I would wait a week or two, until somebody writes a program to automate the process.
Update: It didn't take a week, as noted here.
