iPod help

I'm occasionally having a strange problem with my iPod. I use it with as many as five different Macs. Two have 10.2.5, three have 9.2.2. Four have built-in FireWire, one (the Lombard PowerBook) has a PC Card that doesn't charge the iPod, but does read it.

When I hook the iPod up with either OS 9 Mac at home, I get prompted that the drive could not be recognized (Do you want to initialize it?). On the OS X machines, everything is fine, but here's the strange thing: On the OS 9 machine at work (a 400-mHz iMac DV like the one at home except for color), the drive mounts exactly as expected.

Strangest of all, it sometimes works with the TiBook, and sometimes doesn't.

Thoughts?

I've got a thought: I wish I had an iPod! :-)
Oh, and I wish I could be of some help.

When I got to work, it wouldn't mount on the OS 9 box there, either. I did a full restore, which wiped all the music, and I can now see it on OS 9 and OS X boxes at work.

Glad you solved it.

I just read a bit on the new iPod, and I see that one version supports Macs and Windows, which rights a wrong. Since I have both platforms, I like this feature; now I don't have to get a new Mac before getting a 'Pod. The new dock will make it easy to play tunes at the office. I like it!

looking for a bit of help, using PC and itunes, is there any way to force ipod to take it's file names from the actual filename of the song rather then the tag the MP3 has associated with it?? i've got a beautiful hard drive of well organised songs but when i move anything to the iPod it gets very messy :( ... any help or ideas would be much appreciated. i don't mind switching programs if that will help but i've tryed anapod explorer, musicmatch and now itunes ... i prefer itunes out of all of those but still have my issue with filenames :(

Im having trouble transefering read only files to my ipod. These files are my own cds that I ripped onto my computer. even after clicking the little non read only box they still stay read only? I was wondering if there were any programs that I could download to change this, or is my computer just messed up. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

I've had my 10gb i pod for about a year no, it dropped and the lcd screen cracked, the music still played though, i brought it to the mac store and i asked how to get my cds on my ipod, cause i use jukebox with my downloads, and he suggested itunes, though when i plugged my i pod in it erased all my tunes and now jukebox isn't reading it.... how can i get both itunes and jukebox to load onto it?

Does anyone know how to get around the synching limitations with an ipod. I'm trying to get music off my ipod onto my computer, after someone else put music on my ipod. Is there any way to get that music onto my home computer?

Stupid Question: The reason I bought this iPod was so that I could put the music on IT instead of my computer, 'cause I don't want the music taking up all that space! Do I need to convert the filews to AAC to make them smaller? Is there a way I can remove them from my computer without it affecting what I've got on my iPod? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
